About Frank O. Gehry and AssociatesFrank Gehry is arguably the world's most famous living architect. He established his own professional practice in Los Angeles in 1962 after completing his studies at the University of Southern California and after studying at Harvard University. Gehry has received widespread recognition and countless awards for his work, most significantly the Pritzker Architecture Prize and the National Medal of Arts. Gehry’s architectural language is based on the development of sculptural forms and on the use of unique materials, including more industrial materials such as corrugated metal and plywood as well as more refined materials including titanium and curved glass. Although certainly complex in form, function is the true foundation of Gehry’s architectural language. The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, completed to wide acclaim in 1997, is Gehry's most well known building and is arguably one of the most famous buildings in the world. Time Magazine called the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao the most important building of the century, and a 500% increase in tourism to Bilbao is attributed directly to the building itself. Other notable buildings include the Vitra Design Museum in Weil-am-Rhein, Germany (1987-1989), the Weisman Art Museum in Minneapolis, Minnesota (1990-1993), the Experience Music Project in Seattle, Washington (1996-2000), and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, California (1989-2002).
