The scale of an ecosystem in Panama is often smaller than a typical front yard.
There is such and intensity and particularity of life here that the profile
of biodiversity can change with just a few steps.
The cutting of one tree can destroy an entire ecosystem. Conversely, there
is a robustness of life and an awesome capacity to regenerate. The Panama Canal
Zone is one of the richest biotic reserves in the world—yet it was completely
deforested only 80 years ago!
